Through the redesign Joachimstaler Platz forms a unit with the Kurfürstendamm. It is no longer a leftover area but part of the boulevard. Continuity and integration instead of segregation are sought. Spatially, the square is dominated by the Allianz building. On the sides, the buildings and rows of trees frame Joachimstaler Strasse and the Kurfürstendamm. As a detached building, the traffic-control platform with its integrated kiosk and entrances to the subway is once again free and clearly visible in the space. The lighting con¬cept rounds out the visually fractured situation that previously existed and returns it conceptually to its original situation. The stylistic element of lawns, from the era of ornamental squares, re-emerges in an adapted form as a carpet of light and endows the square with a suitable identity. In twilight and at night, a pattern with green, reflective strips appears on the ground. During the day, the square’s surface appears calm and homogeneous.
