Student residence Felsennelkenanger

A new home for 545 students. The rock carnation "Petrorhagia saxifraga", which was used in the Middle Ages for the production of coloured book paintings and is still represented on the Panzerwiese as a rare heath plant, is not only the namesake of the street but also the starting point for the colour concept of the housing complex.

The project, which emerged from a competition, has offered 545 students a new home at their place of study since 2004.

The building area, newly developed on the Panzerwiese in the north of Munich, is characterised by its proximity to the landscape conservation area, a valuable heath landscape. The urban orientation of the buildings ensures an interlocking of the open spaces in the residential area with the adjacent heathland.

The gardens of the student residence respond to the individual use by their residents. An open lawn terrace in front of the building is assigned to the rooms. The slightly lower garden areas to the west are divided by hedges and form "green rooms" of different sizes.

The colour concept of the building is developed from the colour of the rock carnation "Petrorhagia saxifraga", which was used in the Middle Ages to make coloured illuminations and is still represented on the Panzerwiese as a rare heath plant.
