Olympic Women Village

The bungalows were built for the female athletes to use during the 1972 Olympic Games. Since then, they have served as student accommodation. For the necessary redevelopment of the neighborhood, we worked with bogevischs buero to redevelop the architectural and open space typologies based on the existing buildings.

Refurbishment of student bungalows with 1,052 living spaces

The bungalows were built for the athletes for use during the 1972 Olympic Games. Since then, they have served as student accommodation. For the necessary redevelopment of the quarter, we worked with bogevischs buero to redevelop the architectural and open space typologies on the basis of the existing buildings.

Due to the spatial compactness of the Oberwiesenfeld student housing complex, which is protected as an ensemble, the construction measures affect the entirety of the outdoor facilities. The character of the new planning and the dimensions of the existing building are important points of reference.

Striking elements of the open space such as the planting rings, the planting strips along the rows of buildings, the wall panels at the southern end of the alleys and the materiality of the pavements are taken up again and supplemented by individual, purposefully placed elements such as the gleditsia tree groups.

Due to the building regulations and in accordance with the original concept, the greening of a large part of the buildings roofs was added.
