Village Center and Zentralstrasse

The varied streetscapes and public square spaces in the center of Neuhausen am Rheinfall have been upgraded and undergone a calming of traffic with a superordinate tree and equipment and furniture concept. The topic of water that characterizes the location is staged with various fountains.

With our project, “Increasing the attractiveness and calming traffic in the village center,” traffic has been reduced in the center of the village of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and the center has been upgraded and reactivated. Traffic has been slowed down to a speed of thirty kilometers per hour, which thus results in greater attractiveness for the footpath areas on the sides. The residents of the municipality and visitors to the Rhine Falls now spend more time in the center of the village and visit local businesses or relax in the street cafés. The trees and all the furnishing and equipment elements are arranged based on the specific situation. This has thus resulted in an irregular, fascinating interplay of narrow streetscapes, widenings, and public squares. The uniform asphalt surfacing that extends from façade to façade, the striking ends of streets, and the visually coordinated furnishing and equipment elements link the various subspaces to create a larger whole. The external Zentralstrasse, in contrast, has become simpler in its design and the positioning of trees thus denser and more tranquil.
