Eigerplatz

We structured the transport hubs into an open, vibrant public square and a calm, contemplative park area by clarifying and strengthening the edges of the space. The location is thus characterized by very diverse qualities in a limited space.

Eigerplatz, which was previously characterized by traffic, can today be experienced once again as an attractive urban square. The formerly fragmented sequence of public squares, which was split up into incoherent remaining areas, has been clarified to a significant extent by the redesign of the public square areas and the reorganization of traffic. The history of Eigerplatz shows us that a public square can play a central role in the public space of the district of Mattenhof by serving as a pivotal point between the different districts of the city. A clearly readable spatial structure has been created once again by strengthening and continuing the typical avenues of the block development that follows to the north, positioning a tree volume in the northern triangle, and clearing public square areas around the high-rise building. At the same time, the quality of time spent in both the park and the public square areas has been improved to a considerable extent.
