Spatial development concept (REK)

Pratteln is undergoing an intensive transformation. A new open space framework is being developed to meet climatic requirements, access and traffic functions. Additional public open spaces are being created in dense areas and underserved areas. Measures such as cold air corridors, unsealing and greening will reduce heat islands and strengthen the connection to the landscape.

The small town of Pratteln is currently undergoing an intensive transformation. In order to drive the development of the place with qualities and added value, a closer coordination of use and utilization with the open space framework is required. Open spaces play a central role for the population, serving as meeting places, places to stay, identity carriers, and connections.

As part of this brief, an open space framework will be developed to meet the climatic requirements, development pattern and traffic function of the streets. Special attention will be given to additional public open space in dense areas and underserved areas. Public open spaces near public transportation, arrival points, and neighborhood centers play an important role. They are connected to the higher-level landscape spaces and the transition from settlement to landscape is designed. It is important to create new high-quality connections, for example to the river landscape along the Rhine.

Due to the topographically unfavorable location and a high degree of sealing in parts of the municipality, heat islands increasingly occur within the settlement. To reduce this in the future, measures such as securing cold air corridors, increased greening, unsealing and the creation of retention areas are to be taken.
