Bavarian State Parliament - House of Representatives

Redesign of the inner courtyard in the course of the overall renovation

The basic aim of the planning is to green the inner courtyard of the House of Representatives to an appropriate extent and to increase the overall quality of stay for the users, e.g. during breaks. The ivy growing on the facades and the large lime tree as an existing tree are to be preserved.

The new extension and its opening to the inner courtyard will create a stronger connection to the inner courtyard, supported by direct access to the courtyard via steps.

The remaining courtyard area will continue to be used as parking space in the future. In addition, barrier-free access to the staircase as well as a functioning collection of the waste containers, which will be housed in an enclosure in front of the existing courtyard wall, must be made possible.

In order to comply with the legal obligation to unseal the areas, the image of the courtyard's ivy-covered façades is taken up. As an abstracted image, the shapes of ivy foliage are cut out as joints in concrete slabs and planted with greenery. A lawn is sown on a structurally stable substrate so that the areas can be easily used for events or parked by cars despite the greenery.
