Schaumburg County General Hospital

New clinic in a rural area

The whole hospital compound is embedded in a light grove as an interpretation of the so called “Hudewäldchen”. It connects this designed area with its naturally grown surroundings in the area of Obernkirchen, Vehlen and Ahnsen.

Blooming fields of herbs along the main avenue will guide the visitors to the main entrance. Overgrown lime-trees on the outside of this one-way circle will give shadow to the pathways which collect pedestrians coming from the east side of the parking area and directing them to the generous vestibule. A station for public transport, taxi ranks, short term parking and handicapped parking spots are directly in front of this area.

A field of quarrystones devides this place and acts like a shield for the cafeteria garden. The calming odour of syringa shrubs makes lingering in the sun even more pleasurable.

Starting at the main avenue in the west this path goes along the playgrounds of the kindergarten across the whole composition to its northern end. Resting and meeting areas alternate with each other as well as clearances, wide open fields and narrow plantings.

Hedges, grass elements and large flowering shrubs build a green and living background for patients and employees in the inner courtyards of the complex.

Grassroofs improve the balance sheet for stormwater and provide additional integration into the surrounding landscape.

Emergency and delivery vehicles will go on a separate road from the parking site to the north-east entrance. The delivery area with parking lots for rescue vehicles and storage facilities for the maintenance department is slightly lower and therefor shielded from the emergency area. The helipad has direct access.
